Were this my bedroom, I’d never leave it, except to run to the shops for more strawberry laces (and to visit the loo, of course). I’m assuming Katie Davis designed it for the son or daughter of the house, but it could easily be modified for anyone. Short on storage? Build it with more drawers and fewer shelves. Need space for a desktop screen? Expand the desk area and add to the depth. Ooh, you could also configure the space on the other side of the bed as a vanity, replacing a few shelves with a mirror. So many possibilities!
And having those two adjustable sconces mounted within the bed’s surround? Cosy and convenient.
Let’s not overlook the colour story. The rich blue of the built-ins is repeated on the base of the bed, the skirting/baseboards, and the window frame and sill. The white walls prevent the room from feeling closed in. The stripes of the upholstered headboard also tie in to the darker blue, as well as to the grey-striped rug—which in turn speaks to the grey-checked curtains. So cohesive! And while the chair’s brown leather might seem out of place, it too has its echoes, in the trim of the duvet cover and shams, and even with the throw.
The rest of this home is equally marvelous; see for yourself here.
And now I’m off to do some measuring around my bed. Surely my landlord won’t mind if I create my own built-ins…
