The bones of this dining room aren’t particularly notable, and the space is smaller than I’d expected from a home on the exclusive Main Line outside of Philadelphia (admittedly I know the area only from The Philadelphia Story). But Glenna Stone Interior Design took the humble space and made it something fabulous (just as The Philadelphia Story transformed Katharine Hepburn from “box office poison” to a star).
The dining room has fun elements (the honeycomb wallpaper), luxe elements (that chandelier is a gleaming halo of seeded glass), and elements both fun and luxe (Julie Neill’s Alberto Sconces from Visual Comfort). The original abstract painting over the sideboard is the perfect pop of color, one that’s echoed in the blue of the rug and, as styled here, the red of the tabletop flowers.
In terms of functionality, the substantial seat padding on the chairs is more than welcome. How many times have we longed to leave a dinner party because our tush was numb or sore from a gorgeous but so-uncomfortable chair! And in lieu of a wine cellar, Glenna and team created a wine wall:
Main Line or Main Street, a wall like that would enliven any room.
